(August 19, 2013)... This week, transition man Brad Self was given our “First Star” award for his efforts in the Peterborough Lakers’ Major Series Lacrosse playoff run. On Monday, August 12th the Lakers took on the Brooklin Redmen in their MSL semi-finals series and Self had quite a game. He recorded two goals and five assists to help lead the Lakers to a 15-9 victory over the Redmen.  Self is known for being handy on both the offensive and defensive fronts, as well as being able to breakaway and score.
Below are your Knighthawks three stars of the week:
FIRST STAR – Brad Self, Peterborough Lakers
2 goals, 5 assists in one game
Brad Self recorded seven points (2+5) in one game this past Monday for the Peterborough Lakers in their MSL playoff series against the Brooklin Redmen.  Although the Lakers lost in Game 7 to the Redmen last night, Self had an impressive season.  In just 20 games, he put up 36 points (10+26).  He was joined on the Lakers by Knighthawks teammates Scott Self, Cory Vitarelli and Jimmy Purves.
SECOND STAR – Matt Vinc, Victoria Shamrocks
.815 save percentage in two games
Matt Vinc and the Victoria Shamrocks are continuing on in the Western Lacrosse Association Finals in pursuit of the esteemed Mann Cup.  Vinc recorded an average save percentage of .815 in the two games of the best of seven series the Shamrocks played this past week.  The Shamrocks are currently in the finals facing the Langley Thunder and the series is tied at 1.  On Wednesday, August 14th, Vinc recorded a .788 save percentage and on Friday, he put up a .842 save percentage.
THIRD STAR – Dylan Evans, Victoria Shamrocks
8/14: 4-8 on face-offs & one assist
8/16: 9-17 on face-offs
Knighthawks defenseman Dylan Evans joins Matt Vinc in the Victoria Shamrocks fight to beat the Langley Thunder in the WLA Finals to move on to play for the Mann Cup.  This past week he has helped the team to win face-offs and keep the series even.  On Wednesday, August 14th, Evans was 50% on face-offs and recorded one assist and two days later, he improved on face-offs going 9-17 or 52.9%.  Evans is the Shamrocks go-to face-off player, so he is a huge asset to the team.
