P.O.T.Y: SELF SECURES SPOT IN ELITE 8

The polls have closed on the seventh match-up in the first round of the Rochester Knighthawks' Play of the Year Showdown. The votes have been tallied and the fans have selected the breakaway goal they wanted to see move on the the Elite 8 in the Defensive Region.

This week's winner is Brad Self' breakaway goal scored against the Buffalo Bandits on February 16th. Self helped himself to a spot in the Elite 8 by forcing a turnover, gathering the loose ball along the boards and then outrunning a pair of Bandits to the net. He finished the play by sneaking the ball over goaltender Anthony Cosmo's right shoulder.

Congratulations also go out to Dan Vukosic of Rochester, N.Y., who voted for the winning play. Dan will receive a pair of ticket vouchers to a game during the 2014 season as the Knighthawks look to three-peat as National Lacrosse League champions. Remember, one fan who votes for the winning play each week will receive a prize, so keep on voting!

There is only one match-up left in the round of 16 before the Elite 8 voting begins. Next week's duel will include Jimmy Purves' fast break goal, which was featured on ESPN's SportsCenter as a Top 10 Play. Purves will take on Cory Vitarelli's no-look goal against the Colorado Mammoth from March 12th. Voting begins Monday here on Knighthawks.com.
