(February 20, 2013) ... Every week this season, we will take a look back at the Top 5 Plays from the Rochester Knighthawks' weekend action. Fans can vote for their favorite plays from each week and at the end of the season chose the ultimate highlight from 2013.
The winner of last week’s “Play of the Week” as chosen by the fans was Cory Vitarelli’s diving one-timer off a behind-the-back assist from Stephen Keogh. The goal also appeared on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays from Saturday, February 9th as the seventh best play. WATCH VITARELLI’S ESPN HIGHLIGHT GOAL
Here are the Top 5 Plays from the Knighthawks' home game against the Buffalo Bandits on January 16th. Vote for your favorite highlight from Week 7 in the National Lacrosse League and see if it makes the cut as the top play from 2013.
Transition player Brad Self had scored six breakaway goals in seven games so far this season. He forced Bandit Chad Culp to turn the ball over and outran him as he took the ball coast-to-coast for Rochester’s first goal of the game.
Johnny Powless and Joe Walters set up Buffalo defenseman Jimmy Purves with some well executed two-man game on the left-hand side. Powless took the feed from Walters and buried it over goaltender Anthony Cosmo’s far shoulder, giving the Knighthawks a 3-2 lead.
Cory Vitarelli is no stranger to the “Play of the Week,” having been involved of three winning plays through the first six weeks of the season. He found a hole in the middle of the Buffalo defense and bounced a shot five-hole on Cosmo.
Cody Jamieson unleashed a rifle of a shot on the power play in the third quarter. Cosmo just watched this shot whistle past his left shoulder after Jamieson let it fly from the top of the key.
Just as a power play expired, Dan Dawson charged the net behind two screens on the right side of the floor. The former NLL MVP then beat Cosmo underneath his left arm for the fourth-quarter goal.
