VINC WINS WEEKLY AWARD
02/06/2013 - 3:07pm

(February 6, 2013)... Rochester Knighthawks goalie Matt Vinc has earned National Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. In the 7-6 victory against Washington Saturday, he made 42 saves on 48 shots for a .875 save percentage.

“It’s an indication of how much better we played as a defensive unit,” Vinc said. “Guys were getting in shooting lanes and really limiting their good scoring chances. We watched film last night, and it really showed how well we played defensively.

“I’m just the one who’s going to benefit from the good defense in front of me. I’m just fortunate enough that our defense is good right now and hopefully we do that moving forward.”

The evening was monumental for Vinc as he surpassed two career milestones. He has now played over 5,500 minutes and made over 3,500 saves.

It is the second time this season Vinc won the Defensive Player of the Week Award. He was also given the award after a 13-12 loss to the Stealth in Week #1. He made 51 saves on 64 shots for a .797 save percentage. Through the first five weeks of the season, Vinc ranks third in the NLL in both goals-against average (10.75) and saves (162).

The Knighthawks continue their three-game in eight-day stretch this week. Rochester (1-3) visits Philadelphia (2-2) for an 11:00 a.m. game on Friday, February 8th and ends the road trip with a 7:30 p.m. contest in Buffalo against the Bandits (3-2) the following night. Both games will be broadcast on Sportsradio 950 ESPN and online at www.sportsradio950espn.com. The games will be also carried live on YouTube via The Lacrosse Network.

"Hopefully, this is a good way for us to get back to .500," Vinc said. "I think that's the way we're looking at it. We're looking at getting another win on Friday night against a pretty good Philadelphia team."
