KNIGHTHAWKS TO HOST TONY STEWART SATURDAY
01/31/2013 - 10:27am

(January 31, 2013)… Saturday is usually “Lacrosse Night in Rochester,” but this Saturday lacrosse will share the spotlight with professional auto racing when three-time NASCAR Champion Tony Stewart visits the Rochester Knighthawks at The Blue Cross Arena.

“I want to thank Curt, Glenn (Styres) and the entire Knighthawks organization for the invitation to attend my first lacrosse game,” said Stewart, who knows the Styres family from racing at their track at Ohsweken Speedway. “We’ve got some loyal fans in NASCAR, but I know the Knighthawks have a pretty passionate following as well. I’m looking forward to meeting some of these fans and enjoying the game with Curt and Glenn.

“I’m not sure what to expect. We never had lacrosse growing up in Indiana,” he added. “I know the sport is known as the fastest game on two feet so I would anticipate a lot of back-and-forth action similar to hockey.”

The defending NLL Champion Rochester Knighthawks will host the Washington Stealth at 8:00 p.m. in a rematch of opening night. Tickets for the game are on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com, and at The Blue Cross Arena Box Office.

“Curt asked me if I wanted to suit up, but I’m not sure I’d be able to get up and down the field more than a time or two before I needed a Coke®,” said Stewart. “We’ll leave it to the professionals to put on a great show for the fans and hopefully come out with a victory over Washington.”

The Knighthawks are offering fans an opportunity to attend an exclusive pregame event at The Radisson Riverside Hotel at 5:30 pm. The purchase of a Pit Pass includes admission into the Meet and Greet with Tony Stewart, Pit Pass Credential, 8x10 Photo of Tony Stewart, hors d'oeuvres and a ticket to the Knighthawks game, all for $250.

Rochester will also host its annual Men’s Health Night, presented by the Urology Associates of Rochester. The team will wear special jerseys, which will be auctioned off on www.gobuyrochester.com to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer. A Tony Stewart numbered, lettered and autographed jersey will be among the auction items.
