(January 9, 2013)… The National Lacrosse League has recognized Rochester Knighthawks goalie Matt Vinc as Defensive Player of the Week after the Knighthawks kicked off the 2013 season in Washington on Saturday, January 5th.

Although the Knighthawks did not come away victorious, losing 13-12 to the Washington Stealth, Vinc had a stand-out performance in a game that kept fans of both teams on the edge of their seats. It was the first game of the NLL season and it was a tight back-and-forth contest, as neither team ever led by more than two points.“

Anytime you are recognized by the league it is definitely an honor," he said. "Ultimately, we didn’t reach our goal and get a win, but we showed signs of where we want to be later in the year.”

Vinc matched his season-high save total from 2012, denying 51 of 64 shots faced for a .797 save percentage. He also posted the same stat line against the Toronto Rock in the 17-13 East Division Finals victory which propelled the Knighthawks into the Champion’s Cup Finals.

Vinc is looking forward to taking the necessary steps to get wins for the Knighthawks and moving forward with the 2013 NLL season. The Rochester Knighthawks are currently on a bye week and will then go on to play the Buffalo Bandits in their home opener on Saturday, January 19th at 7:30 p.m. at the Blue Cross Arena.Fans can catch the game on Sportsradio 950 ESPN and online at The game will also be televised live on the Time Warner Cable Sports Channel.
